This week I will be reading the book of Hosea. This is found in the Old Testament of the Bible. If you like you can began to read it and get involved in some discussion.
Hosea purpose is to illustrate God's love for his sinful people.
Let us began by looking at Hosea 1:2....
When the Lord first began speaking to Israel through Hosea, he said to him, “Go and marry a prostitute (Or a promiscuous woman) so that some of her children will be conceived in prostitution. This will illustrate how Israel has acted like a prostitute by turning against the Lord and worshiping other gods.”
OK now did I read that right, God wants Hosea to marry a prostitute? Yes that is exactly what God wanted him to do. It is very hard to imagine Hosea's feelings when God told him to marry a woman who would be unfaithful to him. He may not have wanted to do this, however despite his feelings he obeyed.
If you were Hosea how would respond to God's request?
What type of feelings would Hosea and or you have?
God often asked extraordinary obedience from his prophets who were facing extraordinary times. God may ask you to do something difficult and extraordinary, too. If God does, how will you respond? Will you obey Him, trusting that He who knows everything has a special purpose for His request? Will you be satisfied with the knowledge that the pain involved in obedience may benefit those you serve, and not you personally?
I can recall when God called me into ministry, it was something that filled me with fear. Instead of being obedient and following Him, I ran for many years before I turned and obeyed and followed His plan for me.
