As you read through chapter one of Hosea, you read about his marriage to Gomer. Yes that is her name, Gomer the prostitute.
You read about them having children and how some of children were from other men as Gomer continued her prostitution. Which now was seen as adultery because of her marriage to Hosea. Now as for me, as a married man I would not like the ideal of my wife having sex with other men! What are your thoughts on this? I wounder how Gomer felt?
The book of Hosea is a love story, but it's not just about Hosea and Gomer, it's about God's love for His people. So Hosea and Gomer became the example to the people how God felt when He saw His people worshiping idols as gods. It was like Adultery in eyes of God. This will illustrate the way my people have been untrue to me, openly committing adultery against the Lord by worshiping other gods.” Hosea 1:2b
How many Christians are guilty of spiritual adultery? We claim to belong to God while we flirt with the world and spend most of our time in other pursuits. Imagine how rejected God must feel!! Don't just imagine it. Read about the intimate look at how our unfaithfulness hurts God's heart. Chapter two is especially expressive as it depicts God as a wounded lover who wants desperately for His people to come back.
Again I really encourage you to read this story and as you read, put yourself in the story. Are you like Hosea? Gomer? Israel? Then decide to have a true love relationship with God. Be sure to share your comments....I look forward to reading your thoughts.
