Who Do We Really Want To Worship?

Blind, Deaf, and Dumb

No one considers, nor is there knowledge or discernment to say, “Half of it I burned in the fire; I also baked bread on its coals; I roasted meat and have eaten. And shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?” Isaiah 44:19

----------------------------------------------

The absurdity of idolatry is made plain from God’s vantage point. The utter foolishness of mankind to believe that somehow one side of a log could be holy and the other side common, this staggering! Idols, though they may not hold the same form, often find their way into our homes and fit easily and comfortably into every culture before and since Isaiah’s. We read from Psalm…

Their idols are merely things of silver and gold,

shaped by human hands.

They have mouths but cannot speak,

and eyes but cannot see.

They have ears but cannot hear,

and noses but cannot smell.

They have hands but cannot feel,

and feet but cannot walk,

and throats but cannot make a sound.

Psalm 115:4-7

Take a step back from your life for a moment today, and view it from this vantage point. Do we really want to worship a twenty-five year old who can throw a ball well, or a fighter who can take a punch?

Yet another step back, is your whole world going to be butterflies and humming birds because you look like the model on the cover of the magazine?

Each of us need to take a moment in the Word, and appreciate the unique vantage point Scripture affords us; When we do, we see that these idols are nothing but vapor compared to our God who is the true rock in our life.

Do not tremble; do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim my purposes for you long ago? You are my witnesses—is there any other God? No! There is no other Rock—not one!”
Isaiah 44:8.
