Getting Ready for the Spirit

Today’s Text Comes from:

Acts 2:1-2
"When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting."

Today’s Notes from the Scriptures

They had spent three years with Jesus. They heard Him teach and prayed with Him. Through these experiences, the disciples may have thought they understood the truths He taught.
But everything changed when the Spirit fell on them on the Day of Pentecost. He filled the house where they were meeting and gave them unimaginable power-power to do miracles and change the world!

This same Spirit is still at work today, changing lives and teaching the truths of God's Kingdom, filling Believers with supernatural power to be Jesus' witnesses. He is ready to reveal Himself to us in new and awesome ways-helping us overcome problems, bringing us victory, and transforming our lives, just like He transformed the disciples in the Upper Room.

Yet we must remember that the Spirit is "from heaven." He is not an author or a celebrity. He is not associated with just one denomination or movement. His presence cannot be manufactured or manipulated. As part of the Godhead, He is sovereign and moves on His own timetable.

However we can, and must, prepare our hearts. We can foster an environment in which He is welcome. For the first-century disciples, He fell when they were "all with one accord in one place." They were together, waiting, listening, seeking God, and focused on Him.

Today, the Holy Spirit is available to do a new work in your life. He can change you, teach you, and fill you with the very power of God.

Humble yourself before the Lord. Turn from any sin, and seek to be clean in His sight. Seek Him with your whole heart, and wait for Him. Then be ready for the Spirit to fall on you!

Prayer Father, help me to be ready for the work of Your Holy Spirit in my life. I seek You and want to do Your will. Fill me with Your Spirit and Your supernatural power. In Jesus' name Amen
